Our Review
Lowkey Adults is a coming-of-age drama that navigates the messy in-between of transitioning from university life into full-blown adulthood, where emotions are heightened and decisions carry more weight than expected.
At its core, the film explores themes of social media influence, romantic entanglements, the pressure of “adulting,” and the ongoing search for identity within modern Nigerian youth culture. It leans into the chaos of young relationships, how quickly affection can turn into rivalry, and how validation, especially online, shapes choices and self-worth.
Set within a vibrant university environment that mirrors the realities of many Nigerian students, the story follows Jaiye, played by Susan Pwajok. After a public and humiliating heartbreak, she makes a risky bet to win over her ex-boyfriend’s rival, setting off a chain of complicated relationships, jealousy-fueled decisions, and moments of self-realization among her close-knit circle of friends.
The film keeps things familiar yet engaging, relying on relatable scenarios and emotional tension rather than heavy plot twists. It captures the confusion and impulsiveness that often define this stage of life, even if some moments feel intentionally dramatic.
