Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote will become the first female Director‑General of the Nigerian
Law School, effective January 10, 2026.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo

Odusote as the new Director‑General of the Nigerian Law School, making

her the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.

The appointment, announced on Tuesday, takes effect on 10 January 2026

and is for a four‑year term.

Dr Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director‑General and Head of the

Lagos Campus of the Law School and succeeds Professor Isa Hayatu

Chiroma, whose eight‑year tenure ends on 9 January 2026. Her elevation

marks a historic milestone for legal education in Nigeria.

A statement from the presidency released by Bayo Onanuga, Special

Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said Dr Odusote will

be responsible for academic leadership, administrative management and

strategic direction across all campuses of the Nigerian Law School. She will

also be the primary liaison with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of

Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Dr Odusote holds an LL.B and LL.M from Obafemi Awolowo University,

specialising in company and commercial law, and earned a PhD in Law

from the University of Surrey, UK, with research interests in public law and

the administration of justice. She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as

a lecturer, rising through roles including head of the academic department,

director of academics and head of campus.

Her career also includes international exposure as a visiting scholar at

Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom. She has published

extensively in reputable law journals and presented papers at numerous

legal education conferences.

The appointment is widely seen as a boost for gender representation and

leadership in Nigeria’s legal education sector, reflecting efforts to broaden

opportunities for women in senior professional and academic roles.

Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention: Protecting Children During Malaria Season

Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) is a preventive strategy used to protect children from malaria during periods of high transmission, especially in regions where malaria is seasonal. It involves giving eligible children antimalarial medicines at monthly intervals throughout the malaria season to reduce the risk of infection. SMC is particularly important for children under five years of age, who are most vulnerable to severe malaria. The intervention has been proven to reduce malaria cases, hospital admissions, and deaths among children. Its success depends on the active participation of parents, caregivers, healthcare workers, and communities. By providing protection during peak malaria periods, SMC plays a vital role in improving child health and reducing the burden of malaria in affected regions.
