Before his latest achievement, Jacob Kiplimo from Uganda held the record. Kiplimo ran 57:20 in Lisbon in March, taking the record from Kejelcha, who had earlier set it at 57:30 in Valencia in 2024.

However, this is 2026 and Kejelcha has now reclaimed the record. His 56:51 finish also makes him the first man to run a half marathon in under 57 minutes.

During the race, the 29-year-old Ethiopian maintained a strong pace and continued to push towards the finish. His performance showed why he remains one of the biggest names in distance running.

Meanwhile, the record adds to an already impressive year for Kejelcha. He has also made headlines in the marathon, showing that his strength is beyond the half marathon distance.

With this latest achievement, Kejelcha has once again put Ethiopia at the centre of the distance-running world.
